William E. Smith, PhD, is the author of The Creative Power, Transforming Ourselves, Our Organizations and Our Word,a book that offers a new philosophical lens to help leaders envision a more holistic approach to improving organizations. His Appreciation, Influence Control (AIC) model can lead practitioners to new processes and the achievement of higher levels of purpose in organizations. He is director of organizing development for the International Institute ODII. Cynthia Hornberger, PhD, ARNP-C, MBA, is a professor at Washburn University School of Nursing in Topeka, KS, and special assistant to the president of Washburn University. She was formerly dean at the university. Her academic interests include cardiac care, tobacco cessation, leadership, and co-curricular international education. Daniel Pesut, PhD, ARPN, BC, FAAN, is professor and associate dean for graduate health programs at the Indiana University School of Nursing. He has more than 30 years experience in nursing practice, education, administration and research, and is a certified advance practice psychiatric mental health nurse. These scholars have experience using the AIC model as a guide to linking purpose to power and action, and to the development of innovative, transformative education and committed leadership.
